Amaryllis
At the beginning of the year, I bought myself 3 Hippeastrum bulbs. I've never been lucky with Amaryllis, I can get them to flower once but I can't make them flower again.
Anyhow I decided to give it a try, also I was planning on propagating them, but for the moment I let them grow.
Amaryllis Bogota
Amaryllis Neon
Amaryllis Daphne
My three amaryllis at the same time blooming. I have to admit the Daphne is my favorite because of its color.
Since they begin to bloom, I've tried to pollinate them and look here are 4 seed pods from the Bogota. It didn't work on the others.
I collected the seeds
I decided to try to germinate the seeds with two different manners. The first one, the floating method : basically you let the seeds float in water and wait. The second one, on top of soil. The second one kind of fail, it wasn't as efficient as the floating method, so I know how to do it next time.
After about 15 days, some seeds began to sprout a root as you can see in the picture below. Once the root was out, I would put them into soil.
All the germinated seeds so far. We can already see some leaves going out.
Now I will have to wait about 3-4 years to know the color of these amaryllis. Although they came from Amaryllis Bogota, it is not sure that they will come true to their parent, beside I used the pollen of the three amaryllis so I could have an hybrid between two amaryllis I got. It will be a surprise when the first flower will appear.
